10 Changes To Your Diet That Will Instantly Make it 90% Better

Original Author: Jayson Hunter RD, CSCS
www.mealplans101.com

Most individuals do not eat like they are supposed to. Out of
those individuals 95% of them don’t realize that by making
10 simple changes to their eating lifestyle they can improve their
diet by 90% along with improving their health and overall well-being.

Apply these changes to your diet today and you too will be experiencing
an increased benefit to your health, probable weight loss, a leaner
body, and likely improvements to your blood profile. This all equals
a longer healthier life.

Now let’s get started so you can benefit from these 10 simple
changes that everyone can make immediately.

1. Hydration: Is there a difference
Consume Green Tea or Water instead of calorie filled drinks such
as soft drinks. Green Tea has many health benefits and is a powerful
antioxidant. You should be drinking 1ml of non-caffeinated fluid
for every calorie that you consume. This works out between (8-12)
8oz glasses of Green Tea or Water a day.

2. Benefits of Fiber
Recommend consuming 25-35 grams of fiber per day. Since the average
diet contains only 14 grams we could all use more fiber. Fiber
will help satisfy hunger pangs as well as control insulin and
blood sugar levels which tend to promote fat storage when they
are elevated. By simply eating at least 1 serving of fruit and
vegetables at every meal should get you to the goal of 25-35
grams of fiber per day.

3. The Importance of Protein
Eat lean protein sources which include; lean beef, chicken breasts,
turkey breasts, salmon, low-fat cottage cheese and other low-fat
dairy products, and whey protein powders, at every meal. This
will also help control insulin levels and satisfy hunger pangs
which tend to promote fat storage. You will find yourself naturally
eating less food throughout the day if you eat some type of lean
protein at every meal.

4. Frequent Meals: Why?
Eat 4-6 small meals day a day instead of the usual 2-3 large meals.
Eating frequently will help regulate and boost your metabolism
to burn more calories. By also including your protein and vegetables
at these meals you will tend to eat less overall thereby reducing
your calorie intake.

5. What are Whole Foods?
Consume whole foods that are high in fiber and low in sugar such
as lean protein (lean beef, chicken, fish, and whey protein),
fruits & vegetables (oranges, apples, strawberries, blueberries,
broccoli, peppers, asparagus, carrots, nuts (almonds, cashews, & walnuts),
and whole grains.
Try to minimize processed foods that come in a box or a bag. Instead
choose whole grain choices such as whole wheat foods, oatmeals,
and vegetables.

6. Healthy Fats: Yes, there are healthy fats
Consume adequate amounts of healthy fat foods such as olive oil,
walnuts, almonds, or other Omega-3 products. Healthy fats are
great antioxidants as well as help with brain function and many
other essentials processes that take place in the body on a daily
basis. Essential Fatty acids also help prevent certain diseases.

7. Superfoods
Include what I call “Superfoods” into your meal plan on a daily
basis. These include but not entirely lean meat, salmon, low fat plain yogurt,
tomatoes, spinach, mixed berries, whole oats, mixed nuts, olive oil, flax seeds(or
flax meal), green tea, and various beans. These are just some of the “Superfoods” you
should be incorporating into your daily meal plans.

8. Fat
Keep total fat intake under 30% for the day. This can be accomplished
by not adding too many extra fats such as butter, sour cream,
mayonnaise, etc. This doesn’t mean you have to completely
eliminate these items, but do not eat them as a regular food
item every day.

9. Food Log: Yes, this is the most important step
Record what you eat and drink. You will be amazed at what you consume
and not even realize you did it until you right it down and reflect
back on the day. Keeping a food log is critical to your success
because if modifications need to be made you need something to
be able to evaluate and analyze. If changes aren’t happening
like you had hoped the answer can usually be found in your food
and or exercise journal.
10. Food Labels
Review food labels. Avoid foods packed with excess sugar, calories,
or foods that contain any trans-fats. You should be looking for
more natural foods and not overly-processed foods. Ingredients
to look for and avoid or minimize if they are one of the top ingredients
listed in the ingredients list: Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup
and Hydrogenated or Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil.

If you see these ingredients listed at the top then that means
the product is made up of that ingredient as it’s largest
source.

Now I don’t expect you to make every change in one day.
What I do expect is that if you are serious about living a better
life and a healthier life then you need to make these changes over
the next 4 weeks. The best way to accomplish this task is to map
out your plan. Create meal plans and have a plan of attack in place
in regards to what you are eating and when.

You will start to see just how easy it is to live a healthier
life and achieve the goals that you desire.

Summer Beach Jam for Breast Cancer Benefit

Hey guys!  It’s not often that a group of unknown talented musicians get together and create an atmosphere worth grabbing your attention.  On Sunday August 1, 2009 several groups took time out to give back by sharing the gift of music with those who have either been through breast cancer or know someone who is battling this disease.

At one time they gave a round of applause to a young lady who had a double mastectomy two weeks prior to the event.  She still was able to gain enough energy to enjoy the show and cause.  The benefit was to honor those who are fighting/fought and to raise funds for the care/treatment/amenities that are needed for the Yale New Haven cancer treatment for patients.

I have to be honest,  It is such an honor and a privileged to give back to such a wonderful group of people.  As most of you may know I have lost several people in my family to various forms of cancer.  So when I was asked if I could be apart of this event, I did not have to think twice about it!  I said YES before the sentence was finished.

I just wanted to take time to share this story and prove that we can all make a difference in someones life just by doing little things.  By doing these little things for others, big things and good things will happen for all involved.  The universe loves the discipline of reciprocity and I can only speak for myself, but what an awesome feeling throughout the day.

It feels great to give!  So I challenge us all to find an event or cause where you can give your time and help those who need you to be their inspiration.  Who knows, sometimes the action of giving your time can be that inspiration for you!?

I always talk of how keeping or creating a positive mental mindset can create an incredible outcome.  Well, on this day the energy and atmosphere was full of it!!  If those with cancer can give it their all to fight their battle, then we as people can give it our all to get and battle anything that we want/desire in our lives.

What
would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?

My July 4th Weekend…Keeping Up With Your Spouse!

Hey guys!  I hope everyone had an awesome Fourth Of July weekend!?  I had an extremely fantastic getaway with my better half.  As most of you know I married a wonderful energetic, youthful, strong and beautiful young lady.  I thought that might butter her up when she reads this post..LOL

After a shortened week of work we headed out to my brother and sister in-laws, in Ny.  Just over the Tapanzee bridge. (Haverstraw, NY think that’s how you spell it:-)  I got to chill with my new peeps and hang out with their beautiful little girl Haley.  She loves her Uncle Angelo, of course I had to play a little peek-a-boo.  It’s so fun to watch how little kids really don’t give a rat-so about anything other than the now!

She just wanted to play and show off for her aunt and uncle.  So, we had a brew and some grub,  listened to the Yankee game.  Then it was off to wifeys hometown of Rosendale, Ny.  Oh yeah, we brought a long their 4yr old German shepherd Sasha with us.  Great dog, play, play, play!

Once we arrived, the real chill phase was on.  We decided on Saturday the 4Th we were going to climb/scramble/hike.  I believe it’s called Bonticou’, Probably spelled it wrong, but we climbed it all the same.  Before we headed up to the hills/Mtn we stopped off a little late at a friends BBQ,  got caught up in some chit-chat.

So the plan was to be on top on the Mtn. before night fall or just at sunset…That did not go according to the plan.  So we found ourselves in the woods just as the sun was beginning to set.  Or should I say the sun was just about out of sight.  No problem.  I’m with the one person who knows her way up and down this rock, all is good.  At least I thought it was.

So we finally settle at the peak and start checking out some of the firework displays going off all around us.  It really was a cool spectacle and we were the only people up there, which made it very special!  Wait!! It gets more interesting.  The fireworks lasted about a good 60 to 90 minutes, now remember it’s about 10p/10:30 in the evening.  The moonlight is incredibly bright, but that’s when you’re out of the woods.

We start heading down after a great evening of QT and figured we head back into town for a quick after hours bite.   Continuing on through the brush and trees we make our descent, noticing that the head lamp I was wearing was much brighter than the one wifey had. I lit up the woods in front of her.  I tell ya, good thing we get a long or it could of been a battle.

Forgetting that branches are just about eye level with me.  I was impaled several times, once in the neck and the other to the left eye lid.  Just a scratch…

Finally, we get to the bottom and began to laugh.  This just proves that sometimes we have to trust our significant other, even though we may not like a certain situation.  Deep inside you know that person will get you out of a jam or whatever the issue maybe.

So get out there with that special someone and be daring, adventurous, live life to the fullest!

TOGETHER!!!

A Fit Coach Could Be the Difference

My business partner and I were having a conversation about our own personal experiences with coaches during our athletic years.  During the conversation we agreed that having a connection with your coach is sometimes the difference between a successful team and a mediocre team.

Understanding we all get older and have greater responsibilities beyond just coaching, there is something to be said for the attention span of an athlete when they are told to do specific things during training and other instances beyond training.

A coach, trainer or adviser to an athlete has to be careful of what they ask of their potential athletes.   Now we’re not saying that a coach has to be in Olympic level shape, but they should be taking care of their selves just like athletes are expected to do.

Most coaches get caught up in their sport and forget that today’s youth is very impressionable. They’re more likely to adhere to a coach who takes care of him/her-self than one who is not.

I’m sure you’ve heard someone say “Wait ‘till you get my age”  “when you have kids you’ll let yourself go”, or my favorite “I just don’t have the time.”  Do they sound like good messages to relay to our upcoming leaders and coaches?

Absolutely not!

Coaches should be able to show good form and/or perform a little of what they are implementing
into their teams workouts or programs.  We always say “If we can’t do it properly why should we ask someone else to do it.”

So if you’re one of those coaches who don’t practice even a little of what you preach, get
started on your next workout program.  I guarantee you’ll motivate your kids to put forth an even greater effort when they see yours.

This is just a little food for thought or wake up call.

Athletes are products of their coaches, just like we are products of our parents. So take care of yourself if you’re coaching and be careful of what you ask of your athletes, especially if you’re out of shape.

What’s The Secret And Does The Law Of Attraction Exist?

Several years ago “The Secret” was the bomb diggity for self improvement and self empowerment.  To this day people are still buying the movie and following The Secret website.  Heck I even own The Secret!  Although the idea of The Secret and the principles behind it are great.  The belief that something tangible will suddenly appear out of thin air, just doesn’t simply happen by thinking about it.

Don’t get me wrong, I think The Secret is an outstanding product and it will help put you in the right mindset.  There are other products on the market that are more interactive and give you more of a clear finite path to what you deserve.
